Mexico never disappoints with super friendly locals, delicious authentic food and gorgeous beaches. This was our first time to Sayulita, and itย was definitely less ‘Americanized’ than Cabo, Playa del Carmen, and a few other places we have been in Mexico. ย We loved its boho, small surf town vibe.๐
My travel soul sista, Sarah, researched the most amazing place for us to stay at Teitiare Estate. She originally tried to book Casa Ninamu, which is also on the property, but it had just booked. The owners were super gracious and offered the โtowerโ rooms at Casa O’Te Miti which were actually part of their main home. We seriously lucked out with Oceanfront rooms and got to share their stunning cliffside Ocean View and Pool, open air living area and dreamy kitchen. I literally pinched myself every morning as I sipped a fresh espresso watching whales and pelicans go by. ย Yes, we saw Whales, lots of them! ย The view and scenery from Teitiare Estate is hands down one of the most magical things I have ever experienced. ๐๐ผ
We were just a 4 min golf cart ride into town and quickly realized we were so so glad we didnโt stay in town. We loved going in daily for meals and shopping (Iโll share our favorite spots below!), but it would have been too loud and busy for us personally.
We had an on site, real live Unicorn at Teitiare, Morgan. She works for the owners, and was a dream to meet and hang with. She even invited us to surf with her at her favorite long board spot, La Lancha…and spotted us a ride our first full day there because we didnโt have our rental car yet. I mean who does that for total strangers, right?! She was from Canada and ended up in Sayulita after back packing all over, and has now been there for about 4 years. She wowed is with her Spanish, driving skills, and overall genuine awesomeness, so we nick named her ‘Morgan the Unicorn’ because some people you meet are just pure magic. A rental car was crucial to really explore, so I highly recommend one if you are headed to Sayulita. We Surfed La Lancha almost every morning, and although it wasnโt as big as we (especially the boys) had hoped, it was a super fun, playful long wave. I loved it!๐ค๐ผ
We ate lunch twice right across from La Lancha at Mokai because the Tuna Tostadas were so delicious there. Itโs right by Wild Mex where the boys got some really cool locally designed and printed tees…and also where they crowd the surf breaks with lessons daily.๐
And of course, plenty of pool side relaxing because who would get tired of that view ever?!
Our first dinner in town was at Yeikeme, where you can sit outside and get some good, authentic Mexican food. I could have eaten my weight in fresh guacamole and chips with real Mexican salsas everywhere we went.๐
Surprisingly we ended up getting pizza 3 times because La Rustica blew us away with its calamari, fried shrimp, and arugula and presciuotto pizza. Who knew we would find amazing pizza in Mexico?!๐๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ
However, I think my most favorite meal of the whole trip was the very first night we arrived…we had some local ladies cook up a simple chicken taco a la cart meal with all the fixings that we ate Oceanside at the Estate.
Also not to be missed was an afternoon in San Pancho. We had an Oceanside lunch at Las Palmas, and I would highly recommend their tuna tostadas and margaritas. We stopped at Barracuda (I was obsessed with their floor tiles!) for a happy hour drink and then sent the boys into town to pick up El Itacate tacos to go for another Oceanside dinner at Teitiare. Adam and I both agreed the shrimp tacos from Itacate were some of our faves.
Friday was the last morning we surfed and then grabbed lunch in town at Chocobanana. The boys were craving burgers and fries, and then we all agreed it was time for some more poolside fun. Everyone was feeling good that day, and we came back into town that night for dinner at Maryโs where Chase had some of what he said was the best and hottest salsa he has ever tried…and this guys has tried salsa all over the world…a salsaย connoisseurย of sorts.๐ค
Saturday morning…our last full day, and our boys woke up looking and feeling a little rough. Sarah and I coaxed them to breakfast at La Esperanza, where she and I were in heaven with the avacado toast with a fried egg on top. The boys continued to look a little pekid so we sent them home and stayed in town to shop and grab some gifts.
We fell in love with all the pom poms and colorful tassels everywhere, and I scored the cutest locally handmade posters for my boys along with some other traditional Mexican tchotchkes and some fun Mexican dish towels for our parents.
By this point we realized the boys, especially Chase, were really sick. It could have been the burgers, but we all had a good time telling Chase it was the super hot salsa. He will take it to the grave that it was not the salsa because a true salsaย connoisseur can never go down because of salsa.๐คฃ
Nonetheless, Sarah and I got in some great pool time and Adam even rallied for one more shore break boogie board sesh right out front. ย Oh, and the Sunsets…ridiculous every night, but our last night was true perfection. ย Check out the shot I got of pelicans flying at sunset below!โจ
Fortunately everyone was feeling better by Sunday morning and we had one last hurrah with the gorgeous setting before we had to head home.
